Roller Skating at Dequindre Cut

This week’s Adult Play Adventure almost did not happen.
I had already spent part of the day doing what I normally would have done on a Monday when I suddenly realized…
Oh yeah. It’s Memorial Day. 😭
Immediately my brain went to all the typical holiday things. Food. Drinks. Grilling. Sitting around somewhere allll day.
And while there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, I had this moment where I had to genuinely check myself.
You keep encouraging women to break routine, try new things and reconnect with themselves through experience…so why are you actively talking yourself out of doing exactly that? To just do the same thing?
Especially when roller skating at Dequindre Cut was already something I had been wanting to do with my long time friend for awhile now.
So instead of doing what I normally would have done, we finally went.
And honestly? I am SO glad we did.

If you have never been to Dequindre Cut, it is basically this long trail running through the city covered in murals, artwork and little pockets of creativity everywhere. People were biking, skating, laying in the grass and at one point we passed what sounded like poetry slam practice happening nearby.
The entire place just felt alive.
And honestly, one of my favorite things all these years later is still spending hours catching up and laughing with one of my oldest friends. 😭

That alone probably would have made the day worth it.
Now let me also be honest.
Would I roller skate at Dequindre Cut again?
ABSOLUTELY NOT. ❤️
A bike ride? Definitely.
A scooter? Possibly.
But roller skates on that concrete? Never again in my life. No.

I genuinely do not know how I survived without busting my ass once because the pavement was on a mission to end my life out there. 😭
And if you have to pee, PLEASE handle that before you get there because the bathroom situation is basically nonexistent and my bladder deserves an award for what it accomplished that day.
But honestly, I think that is part of what Adult Play Adventures is teaching me too.
Not every adventure has to be life changing or go exactly your way.
Not every activity has to become your new favorite thing.
Sometimes the point is simply choosing something different.
Different scenery.
Different movement.
Different conversations.
Different energy.

Because it is so easy to default to the same routines, the same places and the same version of yourself without even realizing it.
And sometimes all it takes to make life feel exciting again is saying yes to something slightly outside of your normal plans.
Even if your ankles suffer a little in the process.
